150 years on from the publication of Mendel’s work, please join us for an evening celebrating his legacy.

Featuring talks by geneticists, including:

Canberra Celebrations

We would like to invite you to a public seminar on the legacy of Mendel in modern genetics, hosted by the University of Canberra’s Institute for Applied Ecology, and the Genetics Society of AustralAsia. A panel of scientists will present short talks, explaining the importance of Mendel’s ideas to modern genetic research in evolution, ecology, health and forensics. Speakers will include:

Shelley Kennedy, MS, CGC Certified Genetic Counsellor (Capital Women’s Health) – title TBC

Dr Janine Deakin (Institute for Applied Ecology, University of Canberra) – Epigenetics: Defying Mendelian genetics

Talks will start at 6pm, followed by drinks, nibbles, and a display featuring some of the University of Canberra’s genetics research from 7.30pm.
